NFL · Week 6 · Waiver wire
Woody Marks should be added with David Montgomery hurt, and Germie Bernard and Pop Douglas step into bigger roles at receiver.
Week 6 claims from the Brisbane desk after Sunday’s Week 5 games. The byes are the Bengals, Lions, Dolphins and Vikings. Marvin Harrison Jr. is a speculative add in Houston, Kenyon Sadiq is in concussion protocol, and Dre Greenlaw was ejected for a headbutt. Bills beat the Rams 37–34 in overtime on Monday night. Desk colour labelled.
Week 6 byes: Cincinnati, Detroit, Miami and Minnesota (NFL.com; NBC Sports). Statuses are from team reports and reputable outlets as of Monday 12 October (Brisbane). Monday night is final: Bills 37, Rams 34 in overtime (AP; BuffaloBills.com).
Quarterback
Michael Penix Jr. (ATL): monitor. Penix left late in Sunday night’s overtime loss to Baltimore with a rib injury and did not return. He has said he does not expect it to be a long-term issue and hopes to be ready for Week 6 against Chicago, with imaging planned for Monday (NFL.com; CBS Sports; AtlantaFalcons.com). Tua Tagovailoa finished the game and threw the interception that ended it. Desk colour: no faith in adding Tua.
Wide receiver
DeMario “Pop” Douglas (NE). The Patriots placed Mack Hollins (calf) on injured reserve on Saturday, so he misses at least four games, and A.J. Brown (ankle) is also on IR. That left Romeo Doubs, Douglas, Efton Chism III and Kyle Williams as the available receivers, with Douglas in the slot (Patriots.com; AP; Boston Globe). Desk colour: Douglas is a solid pickup.
Germie Bernard (PIT). Bernard is a Steelers rookie. Pittsburgh put Michael Pittman Jr. on IR with a foot injury on Saturday, and Roman Wilson dislocated a finger against the Colts and did not return. Bernard stepped into the larger role with six catches for 80 yards (Steelers.com; PFT; DraftKings Network; DraftSharks). Desk colour: a decent pickup.
Marvin Harrison Jr. (HOU): speculative. Houston completed the trade with Arizona on Sunday. Harrison was C.J. Stroud’s teammate at Ohio State, and Stroud has spoken about the reunion (ESPN; NBC Sports/PFT; Houston Chronicle). Desk colour: the Texans sure need him, and it might spark them.
Tre’ Harris (LAC). Harris left the 23–17 loss to Denver in the third quarter with a hamstring injury after two catches for 16 yards (DraftSharks; Bolts From The Blue). Desk colour: it might not mean much for target share.
Running back
Woody Marks (HOU). David Montgomery left the 26–3 win in Tennessee early in the second quarter with a groin injury and did not return. Marks took over with 15 carries for 62 yards and four catches for 23 yards, and had a touchdown of about 20 yards taken off for holding (USA Today; Houston Chronicle; CBS Sports/RotoWire; NBC Sports). On Monday DeMeco Ryans said Montgomery is week-to-week with the groin injury and that Marks “will carry the load” (NBC Sports). Montgomery has not found the end zone since Week 1 (Houston Chronicle; NBC Sports). Marks has two rushing touchdowns through five games, plus the one wiped out by holding on Sunday (CBS Sports/RotoWire; NBC Sports). Next up is the Jaguars in London.
Tight end
Kenyon Sadiq (NYJ): monitor. The rookie left the win over Cleveland with a concussion and is in the protocol. Aaron Glenn said he “checked out just fine” but has to go through the process (Yahoo Sports; CBS Sports; NBC Sports). Mason Taylor is next up, with Jeremy Ruckert also in the room. Desk colour: not confident in Taylor.
Brenton Strange (JAX) or AJ Barner (SEA). Strange has drawn eight targets in each of his last two games (FantasyPros). Barner is a lower-priority Seattle option (DraftKings Network). Desk colour: look at either if you need to add a tight end.
Defenders
Dre Greenlaw (SF). Greenlaw was ejected in the second quarter at Seattle. He drew a late-hit flag on Sam Darnold along the Seahawks sideline and then head-butted a helmetless Ernest Jones IV. The league office directed the ejection for a non-football act. On Monday the NFL suspended him for one game, which covers Week 6 against Washington on Monday night. He can appeal, and NFL Network reports that he will (PFT; Pro Football Rumors). Rookie Jaden Dugger replaced him at weak-side linebacker, with Luke Gifford moving into Dugger’s strong-side spot (ESPN). Dugger steps in again if the suspension stands, which is worth noting in IDP leagues (Pro Football Rumors).
Key new injuries from Sunday
David Montgomery (HOU, groin). Michael Penix Jr. (ATL, ribs). Kenyon Sadiq (NYJ, concussion). Roman Wilson (PIT, finger) and Ben Skowronek (PIT, calf). Tre’ Harris (LAC, hamstring). Michael Pittman Jr. (PIT) and Mack Hollins (NE) went on IR on Saturday.
