The Kiwi ranked tenth walks into Paris as the villain.
Parnasse folded Hooker in round one on debut. The preview is below. The result is above.
Result: Salahdine Parnasse stopped Dan Hooker at 2:35 of round one at Accor Arena on Saturday 5 September. Liver kick, then the finish. Referee Marc Goddard. Parnasse is 24–2, 1–0 UFC. Hooker is 24–15, 14–11 UFC, and on a three-fight skid of finish losses. Sources: UFC.com, ESPN, Sherdog, MMA Fighting.
This page started as a preview. The preview held: Hooker was the ranked veteran, billed No. 10 lightweight. Parnasse was the debutant on home turf, favourite on the UFC board. What changed is the cage. Parnasse called for a top-five fight and named Max Holloway as his dream. UFC.com said he “instantly enters” the lightweight Top 15 — no official numbered media ranking was published with that line as of Monday.
Parnasse, at UFC Paris media day, to Sherdog, 3 September: Hooker is “very strong, very experienced… at the top of the UFC.” He called it “the perfect fight” because both men “like to go out there and put on a great show.” Five-fight win streak coming in. Last win on Most Valuable Promotions’ first MMA card. He wants, in UFC’s words, to launch himself into the lightweight rankings in a debut main event.
Hooker is the 12-year man. Consecutive losses to Benoît Saint Denis and Arman Tsarukyan. CBS Sports, 2 September: he is taking the villain’s job in France, including “death threats” from local fans, and he said he was paid a premium to risk the top-10 ranking against a fighter who has never been in the UFC. “He has to come through me… That’s my job: to welcome these guys.”
The rest of the Paris card is French-heavy underneath: Farès Ziam vs Axel Sola; Michael Page vs Nursulton Ruziboev; Morgan Charrière on the prelims. The main event is the one that tells you how the UFC wants Parnasse introduced — not on a prelim, on the poster, against a ranked veteran who has already been through Saint Denis in this country.
What it was: a ranked New Zealander on a skid, a French prospect with two KSW belts, a sold-out Accor Arena. What it became: a first-round stoppage and a Holloway callout.
What this item is not
No invented post-fight ranking number for Parnasse beyond what UFC.com wrote. No claim Holloway is booked. Hooker’s pre-fight No. 10 was the UFC’s billing. The finish is on the record.
